Cinematographer, photographer, Béla Balázs Award winner, Merited Artist of Hungary. He was born in 1957 in Budapest. After secondary school, he studied to be a photographer, then worked for the state-owned film production company Mafilm. Between 1983-1986 he studied cinematography at today’s University of Theatre and Films Arts, attending Lajos Koltai’s class. He photographed Béla Tarr’s three world-famous films ((Damnation (1987), Satantango (1994), Werckmeister Harmonies (2000)), and also worked with directors such as Zoltán Kamondi (Paths of Death and Angels (1991), The Alchemist and the Virgin (1998), Temptations (2002), Dolina (2006)), Attila Janisch (Long Twilight (1997), After the Day Before (2004)), Árpád Sopsits (Shooting Gallery (1990), “Derengő” (1998)) and András Jeles (Sinister Shadow (2018)).
The Zsigmond Vilmos International Film Festival awarded Gábor Medvigy with a Posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024 that was accepted by his daughter.
