Between 26 June and 2 July we will screen a selection of the films of the 9th Zsigmond Vilmos International Film Festival in Belvárosi Cinema!

Small Things Like These, directed by Tim Mielants, is a quiet yet powerful drama about courage, compassion, and the hidden truths of a community.

On ZSIFF 2025, the film’s DOP has received the Best full-length feature film award, and has also received a Special mention by the Critics’ Jury for cinematography.

Etero, a 48-year-old woman living in a small village in Georgia, never wanted a husband. She cherishes her freedom as much as her cakes. But her choice to live alone is the cause of much gossip among her fellow villagers. Unexpectedly, she finds herself passionately falling for a man, and is suddenly faced with the decision to pursue a relationship or continue a life of independence. Etero must grapple with her feelings and decide how to find her own path to happiness.
On ZSIFF 2025, the film’s DOP received the Vantage Vision and Special Grip Hungary Award as well as the Critics’ Choice Award for best cinematography.

On ZSIFF 2025, the film’s DOP received the Hungarian Cinematographers Association (HCA) Award as the winner of the Hungarian Cinematographers’ Week.

ECHOES FROM BORDERLAND

Nahid, a determined 15-year-old girl from Afghanistan, is stranded in the Bosnian border town of Velika Kladuša, where she meets Ferida, a 67-year-old Bosnian widow struggling with her own war-scarred past. Slowly, Nahid discovers that the cycle of war and loss connects her to this place at the fringes of the European Union in unexpected ways. The two women begin to recognize the echoes of their own losses in each other's experiences.
On ZSIFF 2025, the film’s two DOPs received the Zsigmond Vilmos Main Award for Best Cinematography.

The promise of family has returned to Sándor, a widower, and his son, when an incident turns his new life upside down. He is the only witness to a serious accident involving his stepdaughter and his son. Now he faces a dilemma: should he tell the truth and live with the consequences? Or lie to save his son from juvenile detention? Family bonds and personal integrity are tested as the investigation calls into question Sándor’s virtue and strains the relationships that he has built with his family.
On ZSIFF 2025, the film’s DOP received the Association of Hungarian Film Directors (AHD) Award for best cinematography.

Dezső falls off his bike and goes to the hospital. As he wanders between buildings and waits in hallways, he slowly realizes that he might not have come here just to get better.
On ZSIFF 2025, the film’s DOP received the Student Jury Award for best cinematography.

Grobbendonk is a film about walls. It's a film about doors, hallways, floors and ceilings. An investigation into what happened to a house.
On ZSIFF 2025, the film’s DOP received the Best Short Feature Film Award.

 

PENOSAR

Hemmat is an old shepherd in the Alborz mountain in the north of Iran. He lives with his wife in the highlands. While he watches his sheep, he often looks around and remembers the landscape. Sometimes, when he has some free time, he paints landscapes on the rocks and on the walls. Sometimes he sings for his wife when she makes bread. In the autumn they will have to emigrate from their heaven.
On ZSIFF 2025, the film’s DOP received the Best Documentary Award.
